Lifeguard 2 opens 24 hour base

Flight For Life Colorado, announced that beginning Sunday, January 3, 2010, helicopter coverage from St. Anthony Summit Medical Center mountain base in Frisco, Colorado will increase to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Man Survives Dangerous Emergency on Hunting Trip
The hunting trip of a lifetime in the Colorado Rockies takes a near deadly turn for a Columbia man.

Pre-existing agreements between Flight For Life Colorado and local Sheriff’s Departments to provide this shuttle-type service for their team members. The sheriff of the county the mission is in must approve Lift Ticket operations before the helicopter will be launched.

Medical flight programs in Colorado already have embraced technology, like night-vision goggles and terrain-awareness warning systems, that federal officials are debating as part of a crackdown on the medical helicopter industry.

Susan McGlew's big brother was always the adventurous one.
He's the one who moved out to the Wild West, rode the rapids, skied the slopes and left a comfortable hospital job to become a flight nurse on a medevac helicopter in Colorado.

Scott Wilson hunkered down in a snow cave and waited. Outside, he could hear the whoop-whoop-whoop of a helicopter. Above him, he heard the crunch of footsteps.

Ryan Mahany, 29, is an Army helicopter pilot who has served in Afghanistan. His dad, Patrick Mahany, is a long-time Flight for Life helicopter pilot who flew in the Vietnam War.
